It feels like only yesterday

As a toddler, I took you to see the sea

The sun was hot and the sand was cool.

Then you ran after some birds into a huge deep pool

Then screamed till I dragged you free.

It feels like only yesterday

You gazed at the twinkling stars.

And thought of the girl who`s hand you`d take.

I could see that you loved her with all your heart

And what a lovely pair you`d make.

It feels like only yesterday

You cuddled your two boys.

Christmas was just lovely as you played with all their toys.

They grew so fast, but adored you still

Now they miss you so and always will.

The Lord saw your pain and promised me

He`d take you home and set you free.

It feels like only yesterday

Just as your life was starting.

And your wishes and dreams were at their best.

So he carried you home carefully

He knew you needed to rest.

In my heart your memory is fresh and true

There`s not a day I don`t think of you.

You had to leave so early, it`s really hard to bear.

It hurts so much to see the places you loved so much

Now you`re no longer there.

It feels like only yesterday

They told me of a special journey.

From this old world, to the new.

Some day I`ll make that journey I promise, that will lead me back to you.

The memory of those happy days
