Poem -

You, My Grandfather

You, My Grandfather

Who traveled in your youth

from hither and yond.

Who once upon a time,

danced with a beautiful princess

you met at a ball.

(who I would later call "Nana")

Oh! how you danced all night

as though fatigue

would never come

To your young energetic feet

You, my grandfather,

Who made something

from nothing,

now lay on that white

inflatable mattress

and have barely strength

to compose a full sentence,

Look at us all with those

large,

bright,

hazel eyes of yours.

Eyes that have witnessed

death and life,

love and pain,

war and peace.

You, my grandfather

Who at my birth

called me your little angel,

I pray for you,

I see pain in your eyes.

and pray for you.

I dry my tears,

I blow my runny nose,

And pray for you.

Love, your not - so - little angel
