You Were The Greatest

Last Friday, we sent our dear Hero back home, as we gently laid him to rest;
Cried tens of millions, around the world; “He was the greatest! He was the best!”
Your epitaph ever etched in our hearts, “floated like a butterfly, stung like a bee”;
Your legend lives on, the great Cassius Clay, better known as Mohammad Ali!
You were much more than just a pugilist, with the powerful gift of a jab;
You were a poet and a comedian, with also, the great gift of gab!
You broke people up, with more than just your fists, they’d hit the floor laughing so hard;
You’d knock them out with your punch of wit, and the poetry of a great bard!
I think, when we lose, a legend such as you, known throughout the whole world wide;
We also lose a piece of ourselves, evidenced by the tears we have cried!
We expect all our heroes to never leave, like Gods who do not depart;
But when they do, they will ever live on, in the cores of our sad broken hearts!
So, farewell, our fallen hero, we’ll see you at night, in our dreams;
As you shuffle in and shadow box, with jokes, and your face abeam!
Ten bells rang out, Friday at noon, as you took your final curtain call;
But you always were, and forever will be, the “Greatest” of them all!

Hi Georgina,
My cup runneth over!Â
My fingers quiver for a pen.Â
My ego is off the Richter scale.
Thank you so very much, again.
