Young Dad

There once was a boy,
With the passion of a man.
Never accepting help,
But alway lending a hand.
Poured his heart out.
As his friends took shots.
He treated life as a race.
Aimed to beat death against all odds.
Known to be an optimist,
With the grin of a winner.
His smile slightly cracked.
When it was time for dinner.
A bun in the oven.
A son for his loving.
He had so many questions.
His heart felt the tugging.
Tugging from a child's hand.
Everyone but him,
Noticed the change from a boy to a man.
A father in the making.
Mistakes will be made.
As a father myself,
I tell him the game has yet to be played.
Weather the storm.
Whether hes born or torn,
From his arms.
I will forwarn.
You haven't seen life,
Till you see your son born.
That day will speed up your growth.
The first seed to plant your land.
There once was a boy,
With the passion of a man.
