Your Cheatin' Heart

Your Cheatin' Heart

We do it, don't we - don't always want to,
no place to hide, all these misnomers are a pain;
I am more tolerant than you could ever really be,
all this 'melt your heart' stuff can become a mystery.

Sneaking around the bicycle shed is rather pathetic,
but whatever we do, we're pushed to something quick;
look at the divorce rate - we're running at fifty per cent,
it's too late when we say that it wasn't really meant.

It gets dramatic, we've got a few measly years left,
why on Earth should we spend our time feeling bereft??
So what's the solution, carry on as though it's nothing,
or take action to see what something else may bring.

I'm quite lucky - I don't need you to tell me anything,
you tell me what your unstructured life might finally bring.
