Poem -

YOUR LIGHT STILL SHINES

As a little boy
I've heard about you
Even though the Atlantic Ocean separated us
My country and people
Profited from the things you did.
Equality for all people
You try to achieve
Teaching minority's to trust
Hope and believe.
Justice was on the top of your list
Some took this lightly
And your messages they often resisted.
Peace and love
You demonstrated and preach
You stood in plain sight
While others hid under sheets.
The path of nonviolence
You taught and walked
You saw all people as Gods children
Who should live in unity
And subdue the earth.
You were a gift to us all
Like the blessings received from the sun
But your light was for a moment hindered
By the bullet of hatred' gun.
Yet your light burns brighter
In our hearts and souls
Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
We are grateful to you
For you unselfishness and life of love.
By
Wilford Barker.
