you're an angel

you were an angel. 
in every single sense of the word. 
you seemed to always know. 
that might've been why I didn't see it before - because I never knew what knowing was. 
it's still so odd to me. 
how can you be so good?
how can your heart be so pure, disregarding traces of any unnecessary but seemingly natural human tendency. 
you would break off pieces of your wings and give it to everyone around you if it meant they would walk away with a smile on their face. 
where are they walking to? 
you knew they weren't walking away. because youd see them again. 
with the pieces of your wings in the palms of their hands.
you always knew. 
and it never bothered you that no one else did. 
how did you make such an impact? 
how can an angel with broken wings make someone want to so intensely become a better person? 
you opened eyes which didn't even realise they were closed. 
I can feel the warmth of your heart around me everyday. 
we walk around with pieces of your wings everyday 
you truly are an angel. 
you always were. 
and you finally got your wings back. 
I know one day I'll see you again. 
and I can thank you. 
you've done so much for me yet I don't exactly know what. 
But I know it's there. 
Reminding me to keep going. 
and I'll continue to hold onto this piece of your broken wings whilst you are already growing new ones. 
because that's just who you are.
