A parents worry .
It was unsaid , But commonly thought . They now had two children . In cold logic , Enough for the task required . It is just a curse and a worry , The order they were born in .
Even though still at a very tender age , There were warning signs that bode ill for days ahead . It is already evident the better temperament manifests in the younger of the two . What a shame you cannot choose , The hereditary system has already decided .
Even with elders superior education , The early preparation , The building of the foundation . It becomes ever clearer , The younger is the more capable child . And there is nothing they can do about it .Â
As mother and father , They can only guide and pray in time , He will become the man the role requires . His personality traits will be suppressed and hidden in the name of duty . But even though , Silent stiff upper lip , They hide their concerns , They still do show obviously .
And both children (and unsubstantiated gossip) all know it .Â

Hi Chris. This is much longer than your usual short poems. Some things parents cant choose in their child....nature decides...and worrying is all we ever do....I suppose!! Px
Few mins later....I realised you mentioned it was a short story!Â
The heir and the spare. I immediately thought of William and Harry as I read this.... Lol
Great little story, Chris x
Hi Tina , You were right , William and Harry's situation did inspire this story , Warmest wishes , Chris X
