Amphibian Man

One Summer evening my mom and her friend were walking along the bank of the Khoper River. Lots of local people like doing that during the Summer, but nobody was there that evening except them. It was getting dark. Usually nobody bathes in the river at that time of day. So they climbed up one of the hills and were about to go back home, when they suddenly saw a naked man sitting on a small “island” in the middle of the river. As far as I can remember, he looked unusual since my mom and her friend stayed there and paid attention to him, instead of leaving and going on their way.

They could see him very well but they didn’t recognize him. He wasn’t one of our village dwellers, he was a stranger. Then he noticed them and quickly jumped into the water. The women were very surprised and decided to wait until he appeared again, but they didn’t see him resurface even though they could observe the river very well.

It’s very odd that the man did not resurface after going under the water. Even if he held his breath and swam, he most likely wouldn’t have been able to swim far enough away from their view before resurfacing unseen, since they had a good vantage point of the river.
