Grave Talkin'

Some background: Ballarat is a town with a bit of a past, located roughly 105km105km Northwest of Melbourne, Australia. The people there were inspired by tales of fantastic wealth gained in the 1849 California gold rush.

Fueled by extravagant stories of wealth gained at the 1849 California gold rush, gold fever hit Victoria following discoveries of gold in Clunes, Warrandyte, and Ballarat. But the real Aussie gold rush began with a massive discovery at the Mount Alexander goldfield, roughly 60km Northeast of Ballarat. By the end of 1852, 90,000 newcomers had flocked to Victoria in search of gold and provincial towns like Ballarat grew exponentially. A lot of those folks can now be found in an old Ballarat cemetery that dates back to 1856.

My husband works in IT as a systems administrator. At the time of this incident he was working at a place that would occasionally require him to visit a client on site. I’m physically much stronger than him and better at packing, so if I was free, he would sometimes ask for my help. I ended up going with him to Ballarat once.

I opted to try to walk from his client’s place into town, even though my sense of travel isn’t very good. It wasn’t long before I got lost. Of course, my husband wasn’t answering his phone either! After walking a bit I ended up near the entrance to the cemetery, so I decided to go in. I was quite worried that I wouldn’t be able to get through to anyone useful, and I didn’t trust myself to keep going and probably end up getting even more lost.

I’m a medium so I can talk to dead people, so I did the only thing I could think of at the time, which was to ask the “residents” of the cemetery for help. The only problem was that the images I was “shown” weren’t of any use to me. It seemed like they had been from another time period. Long story short, I left the cemetery at that point and kept walking. By fluke I managed to find my way to the center of town. My husband eventually answered his phone and picked me up.

When we got home, I went online and did some research. I was able to match some of the images I was shown, with actual images from Ballarat's past. My only regret is that I didn’t have anything to sketch them down on when I was in the cemetery, and that I wasn’t able print out the ones I’d found online to back up this story about my little adventure.

Quite often when you talk to spirits in a particular place the images they show you can be from their lifetime, so it can seem a bit different to a person living nowadays. Some might possibly only see things as they remember them and not how they are now.
