hue and saturation , A play by Nardine Sanderson Love is not always black and white a romantic love story - unfolding in colour before your eyes. opera style - music, male low baratone singing, poetry recital, male in hue -shade greys old fashioned clothes - dresses - full colour - saturation, bright, opera style music, soft poetry reciting conflicts male is grey due to a spell which a past love cast upon him, leaving HUE faded, if he finds pure love the spell will break, and colour shall return to him, if its not pure love he will fade away completly. the more he interacts with her the more colour he becomes, gloves, hat, book ect poetry reading throughout, the book she loses is a poetry book she writes her poems in. scenes 1 - street walk, occasional walkers by, lovers holding hands, dark doorways, 2 - coffee shop, caffe poeple drinking coffee, silently working, silenty reading by the window 3 - duck pond - lake autumn scene golden leaves, ducks,trees 4 - book store pople buying books, looking at books 5 - park bench empty park, only HUE and AMBIANCE, trees intro - poetry NARRATOR; EX LOVER when love is absent of colour, hope and grace, unfortunate beauty in a lovers face where grey and white lay unclothed by the heart, waiting just waiting for loves great part. INTRO SCENE; HUE AND NARRATOR EX LOVER. HUE standing center stage while NARRATOR EX LOVER walks around him reciting a spell NARRATOR EX LOVER speaking loud; forced apart my aching heart, seeks revenge on thee and so colours of your love are parted now to see may shades of darkness known by grey take hold as if to view by day, and saddness follow there and by, come the nightfall the midnight sky so if returned by love of pure intended mend, i shall let thee go and be thy friend, but if not pure to be, may you fade and nothing be as vanished as the love you told, where once that love had me to hold NARRATOR EX LOVER; SONG you could not love me you could not stay, now be lonely night and day, we were lovers happy to be now youre gone and all i see, is you with another her light is bright and she is blessed, colours vibrant and expressed i feel such torment we have to part and so you claim now colours stark, turn to grey after dark NARRATOR, EX LOVER SPEAKS; if by love her purest heart confides in you a lover, and declaires with love formost to be, never to another may the colours come to you piece by piece the more, unto such love, if she does love and you such love adore, then bears the strength and breakes the spell and lonely nevermore as you may kiss her very lips, the colour again must upplore my heart i shall let thee go, and furthermore depart having love her pure heart claim yours evermore scene one , street walk - AMBIANCE; walks along singing , drops something - glove HUE picks it up and his hand turns to colour, he sings -wait how could this be , my hand is colour for all to see, is this love how could this be? maybe she holds the key. AMBIANCE SINGS; opening song - under the sky, ive seen your face, not one smile out of place for clouds they never seem to bare more than rain would have to share, and so each season made with love, holds my hand this merry glove though i should write and then recall, the beauty here, for all. AMBIANCE; SPEAKS LOUDLY ive searched for love so little time, yet dreampt of him by night and day imagined words his voice like heaven confessed and would due say i met the pond and walkers by but still im lonesome beneath the sky, where many birds they take to flight and bring to me a touch of hope, to find a love forever so , and with him i wont let go AMBIANCE; lonely hours confide to hold, still vibrant flowers blue and gold the feeling that he is never far , is lighter night by every star and so i write and sing my songs, and find my faith my loving heart if by chance i find him dear then we shall never part AMBIANCE; drops her glove while walking and doesnt realise HUE; picks up the glove and his hand turns to colour HUE SINGS, wait how could this be, my hand is colour for all to see, is this love? how could this be? maybe she holds the key. NARRATOR EX LOVE; SPEAKS LOUDLY watching from a distance speaks - i watch as if she owns his heart, and catch his eyes no longer in mine, and so my longing lays distant as flowers grow her loving vine how pretty is her face there gazed, likes stars upon do shine and so his love for her returns a seprate cause to mine. SCENE TWO; coffee shop - HUE watches her reading through the window across the street HUE recites poem- what caught her eyes in kinship that makes her mind hold fast a book there filled with her delight, oh how my heart is cast for on me in mine her look would hold and cherished eyes would then be gazed and so my heart then melting set fire upon its blaze. AMBIANCE; realises she lost her glove, leaves her book behind and goes looking for her glove HUE sees ambiance leave and takes her book. SCENE THREE; duck pond-lake AMBIANCE; sings a song- first song how does the light sway beyond this pond and many feathers swim to fly' i watched them peaceful still, at play beneath the blueish sky, oh duck, this pebble ripples muchto learn , for such a love if any where absent waters burn, a yearning knownby many, if love can find a way, how does the light, the light sway. AMBIANCE; while looking for her glove, realises she has lost her book starts singing song AMBIANCE; second song somewhere i lost it, somewhere near or far what if its found laying around what if its gone for good, how can this be, that i left it behind, now i must search hoping to find, the book of my heart, its shadows at play before the night the ending of day, how did i lose it i left it behind, what if someone found it, i hope that they are kind. HUE; recites poem - in love she yealds like a plummet rose, vibrant fresh as the air a magical sort almost dream like fair, her cheeks of blush and lips of pink makes man listen as she sings, like some wonderful garden, in the midst of some woven spring HUE recites SECOND POEM what fair had she acuired so this beauty by the lake, oh my heart would souly glow if i could then partake, such as lips her merry face, as bright as the light i see, this beautiful and lovely so standing by the tree. for she is light and colour holds, and paves my steps with lulling gold, to dream with herand breaths fortake, such love partake. SCENE FOUR- book store AMBIANCE; goes back to the book store to purchase a new book for her poems after searching without finding the one she had lost. HUE; follows AMBIANCE and waits watching realising both his hands are colour, still holding the glove, and book. SCENE FIVE- the park bench AMBIANCE sits on a park bench looking into her new book HUE; watches from a nearby tree, HUE; recites a poem- from behind the tree. walkers by have seen delights in the presence of she, she sits in waiting for her book with looks of curiosity, must i wait and wait here still this park bench is overdue, for ohh my heart, my beating heart makes hence of her great view. almost as if her hand would make many men a tower, i hold it in my grasping hand and walk this side of bower, if she yeailds a loving heart, would then be mine this pretty rose? caught not, yet held, held close whilst dancing on her toes? for she is light and colour holds, and paves my steps with lulling gold, to dream with her and breaths fortake such a love, such love partake HUE; speaks, should i walk to bekon her side with these her precious things she sings, oh sings and i stand still with breaths as quiet to hear and like an angel singing lend both my heart and ear to sit with her, closer by would love begin so near, for such a rose in any light her garden brings me here, and in all by any sight makes light her light so clear HUE speaks must i hide and wait here for furthermore my heart it feels, and she brings thee more and more to heal. AMBIANCE; writes a poems in her book while reciting it out loud HUE; silently listening, watching from a nearby tree after the second poem she looks up and sees him if i look towards that moon, would you be waiting there? i saw your face in every star and nothing could compare and there we were together not so far apart it was a kind of heaven created by the heart for your face , your eyes in mine would light the darkest way and bring with it the morning light the brightest star by day, for nothing could compare to you, your eyes of blue ive seen and in my heart so dearly loved all the ways between. POEM TWO- AMBIANCE could my heart hear his heart afar, and bring on leaves the tree could my love come and grow so dear to hold my hand so nearby thee. AMBIANCE looks up and sees HUE HUE realises the book he holds is AMBIANCES poetry , opens the book and recites her poem - if love hath wings to travel, and by moonlight landeth here id hold that love before the light, id pull it closer near for many stars hath shone the way and captured pathways running deep and landeth here upon my eyes, whilst eyes abode in sleep and waketh would my heart there silence though beat with ever word to hear the sounds of his embrace, a captive angel, a winged bird for flight would hath my lover flown to rest within my heart so still, on feathers fly, neither i nor him forever stay, no winged bird or angel could take thee away. HUE; becomes more colourful having read her words, and looked upon her face HUE AND AMBIANCE walk towards each other, HUE passes AMBIANCE back her glove and book she kisses him, and he turns full colour they turn and face the audiance holding hands NARRATOR; recites and ENDING POEM - a young woman named Ambiance fell madly in love with a man named Hue divided their hearts saturation, together one heart brightened, although had been grey and white stepped out of the pages and into the light, so many colours caused tears, others a trancing theme, but together ambiance and hue would discover a world which but a dream, beyond the white away from the grey creating motion pictures in blue lilac sway stepped outside the scenes of oak and wood, strongly together they stood, no other reason but the love they feel, captured together, so very real love once a mystery, bought him to heal the end is not the end , reveal. NARRATOR EX LOVE; OH HOW YOU USED TO LOVE ME ANS SET APART THE NIGHT AND LOOKED AT ME AS IF I HELD FORMALITIES OF THE LIGHT NOW THE MOON LOOKS DOWN NOT ON HUE AND I BUT HANGS FACE LOW TO SEE, BELOW THE LADY WITHIN HIS EYES AN SO THE NIGHT BECOMES OF HER, WHERE DARKNESS KEPT HIS SOLITUDE, AND THOSE STARS SO OFTEN BRIGHT, LULLS TO THEM LOVES MOOD AND SO I MUST RELEASE HIS LOVE, WITH HER NOW TO BE RETURNED WAS LOVE THE PUREST LOVE, THIS HEART OF HEARTS HASÂ
