Insanity Play : A puppet for a puppeteer
PART 1
"Wait."
Waiting was a pain.
"What?" The words left his mouth and echoed around the cavern.
"Just wait."
I slowly pulled out a torch, opened it. The spot of light hit my eyes with terrible intensity, I winced. "Come on, it's not like we have all day." He said, working his way through the darkness, guided by my engulfed spotlight. As we descended lower into the cavern, doubt gripped me. It buried my thoughts deeper and deeper, and suddenly I felt it constrict my lungs, doubt was a dangerous thing. I could barely claw the words out. "Nico, I don't want to die."
He turned around and even though it was pitch black, I could see his frown and I could literally hear his eyes rolling with exasperation. "Lily, you said that eight minutes ago. Neither do I."
Doubt was such a devilish thing.
The rocks around us were sharp and jabbed into me a few times, I grimaced and let myself cry silently.
Why was I doing this? It definitely wasn't obvious.
The path ahead -to certain death, perhaps- was getting more steeper and winded. I only had that much rope left. Just when I wanted to give up and turn back, Nico turned around. The movement was swift and sharp, it caught me be surprise and I stumbled back. Then suddenly I lost my footing and fell backwards, onto the unforgiving ground. Nico turned his torch on.
And pointed it straight into my eyes.
"Fu-" I cringed away.
"Are you okay?"
It was a kind of obvious question, considered that I was sprawled to the ground and my eyes had been temporarily blinded by a certain idiot.
"No." I snapped.
Nico looked guilty.
Good.
"Ouch, what-" Nico turned around in pain.
I gasped, a sound that was deafeningly muted.
A body.
A body crawling on the ground, rotted and dead. It was like something out of a pure horror movie, my heart dropped to my stomach. The world was suddenly silent.
"Nico......" I whisper. He was frozen to the spot.
Then he pulled me up and ran, dragging me.
"Lily, the rope, the rope!!!"
I felt scared, frightened as Nico stopped.
The bodies were coming closer, there hands outstretched.
"Nico....."
I felt a hand on me, and I knew it was not Nico's. It was cold and sharp, grasping me so tight as if I would never know happiness again.
"Lily!" The voice cut through the air, so desperate and. So. Far. Away.
"Lily!" I felt suffocated, I couldn't move, not now, not ever. Again.
"Lily." An echo of what was to become. It hurt so badly.
"Lily! What is going on?"
My mind snapped.
And there was Nico again, standing in front of me.
A blade that I don't remember holding slipped through my fingers, my hand stained with a indescribable shade of crimson. And the bodies around me.
Oh.
And the bodies around me.
I look up at Nico and smile, it is pitiful but still manipulating.
"Nico, what's wrong with me?
