A Knight in the Night...My Last Write

~~So I arrived here at 11pm in wind and driving rain
I removed my shoes to embrace the wet sand
The waves so lively and the tide just rolls on in

I sat myself down at the breaking edge
The severe cold gave a strange comfort
My plan...was to sit and wait to be taken
My tears were as huge as the ocean I faced

A man walked by with his dog for a friend
'Are you okay' he simply said
'Yes' I said 'thank you for asking' was my entire reply

I was waist deep in waves with a spray catching my breath
I cried, I was froze, I welcomed my end
It was there...in my reach, if I were to remain brave

A uniform approached and stood on the shore
He shouted above the noise for me to stand and walk back
I felt he cared and turned my head
He beckoned me back with a held out hand
I could not see his face

I stretched my legs, so cold, so stiff
The journey back more painful than the start
I arrived back on the beach a broken soul

He held my hand to steady my retreat
We sat on a bench for a while
We talked like friends about trouble
He escorted me home and came in for coffee

I would like to say 'Thank you' to that uniformed man

Oh I would like to say it was inspired but sadly not...... The community policeman helped me through. It was dark in every way. I keep smiling and writing about real life for I know no other place.. Time may show me a different path.
