memorial day

Walking thru all the white crosses I feel my knees begin to shake walking and holding the hand of our son, he is 3 yrs. old now , stopping front of bright white cross it has you name on it I slowly kneel down in front of your grave , our son looks at me and askes momma why did we stop here ? I want to see my daddy you told me I could, I slowly pull your framed picture from my bag and place it against you cross. Our son looks and doesn’t understand that this is where you sleep for eternity. I brought him here for a special reason, I say son this is where your daddy is now. he went to defend you and me and our country from bad people and on this day we honor his life and today is special son, see I got this medal from the navy a few days ago and they included request from him and on this day I honor that request . you see daddy wanted to see you wear his purple heart and today I pin it on you with pride hope that you will understand that this represents that your daddy was a hero. I pinned it on my sons suit jacket with trembling hands and tears in my eyes, when I finished I heard behind me some say hand salute to my surprise a group of soldiers had heard and gather behind us they saluted my husband and our son and they all shook his little hand he was smiling so proud one of the men happened to be a sailor and he gave my son a white sailor hat and said son your dad was my friend and I will never forget him. son if you ever need me don’t be afraid to call me. with that they all marched away I was crying and smiling all at once. On this day we remember the ones that gave their lives for us. I hope this little story helps us remember the ones that gave it all. and keep the ones still here in our hearts.
