Modification (Part 4)

Still feeling insecure, she had no idea of how she was going to get out of the situation
she had placed herself in. At that moment she felt like a lost sheep that was about
to become devoured, to be taken down to a level that was even more distasteful than
the one she was already in. Alone though she would face the onslaught, then walk
away a wounded soul. Or maybe she should just trust what that little voice kept telling
her, demand that she exit and not look back. She was about to do just that, but not
before a familiar voice called out from the distance. It was Tori's, and then the rant started. "Holy
hell Allison is that you, God you made the effort to come." Tori had disengaged herself from
the group and was heading towards her. It had been about ten years since they'd seen each
other, but to Addison it had felt a lot less. Tori had made something of herself in that time,
working for a high fashion company. She had surrounded herself with the upper class,
open to fears, never afraid to step across boundaries. Addison on the other hand was a
free lance writer, always stuck in a world of solitude which allowed her the excuse to hold
back. Writing was her life and it controlled her. She was certainly not up to Tori's standard.
Addison braced herself as melodramatic Tori flung her arms open, grabbing her.
Addison wasn't prepared for this type of melodrama as Tori began smothering
her with hugs and kisses. Addison was certain that a plaque was upon her, the infection was
quiet unique. They certainly must have looked a sight as Addison tried desperately to keep
herself from toppling over. Her high heels barely hung on to her feet as Tori lifted her off
the ground. After what seemed an eternity, Tori finally pulled away as Addison tried desperately
to normalize her posture without looking to disheveled. The two then stood facing each other.
Addison noticed straight away that Tori didn't have a hair out of place. The drama that had just
ensured still left Tori looking fabulous. Addison knew however there was a chance she on the other
hand must look inhuman. Surely she didn't come out of it unscathed. She reached for the hair clip
she had placed earlier in the hope that it wasn't now lying on the ground with a few noticeable
deadened strands still attached. Relief followed when she realized there was no need to go running to the
nearest bathroom. She had lived through the cyclone of Tori's grand welcome which had definitely
been overdone. Tori the show girl was at it again. They weren't best friends for Christ sake they
were mere acquaintances, well that's how Addison saw it. The close friendship they once had ended
long ago. If Tori thought things could be the way they once were well she was sadly mistaken. The
damage was done. People change, she had changed and she wasn't about to become one of Tori's puppets.
She knew deep down that this invitation was just for that, for a reconciliation. But Addison wasn't
about to fall for it, she would tread lightly. She now faced what she had dreaded for so long, the
chance to show who she really was. The battle to find herself was about to begin.
