Cinderella~ A Poetic Tale

When my pretty mamma died
All daddy did was sat and cried
Lonely he said was he
Guess he didnât think of me
We got by day by day
Until the time he went away
Said he had to get a life
Then he brought home a brand new wife
She had daughters of her own
Who acted like children though they were grown
Surly creatures both were spoiled
I was the only one who toiled
They all made nice in front of my dad
But really were so very bad
Made me an outcast in my home
Never was I more alone
One day I heard talk of a ball
A prince no less had invited them all
They preened themselves in expensive dresses
Had me style their matted tresses
Scoffed when I asked them if I could go
Persuaded daddy to say no
Laughed and said Iâd show them up
And with that off they took
Left me sobbing in the hall
They really did not care at all
Suddenly I heard a noise
Then a happy soothing voice
âFear not my childâŚâ I heard it say
âYou shall go to the ball today!â
Looking up in wonder I said
âI canât I must stay here insteadâ
I saw a lady in front of me
Wearing a look of impish glee
âI amâŚâ she said â...Your fairy godmother
Iâm here for you not any otherâ
She waved her wand and whispered so
âIâll give you all you need to goâ
My clothes transformed to a pretty dress
No longer was my hair a mess
Glass slippers appeared upon my feet
And a coach with horses outside on the street
A footman opened up the door
I could not have wished for more
âMy only rule...â the fairy said
âBy midnight you must be home in bed
All will be as it was
Blame the magic-just because!â
Thanking her I ran out the door
To the ball the horses tore
Once inside I was enthralled
âCountess Ellaâ I was called
Truly an event to astound
I saw the sisters swanning around
Wanting not to cause disgrace
I wore a mask to hide my face
Made my way to the parquet floor
There to sway and twirl and soar
I caught the eye of the prince
Said he was enamoured with my spins
Gently he took my arm
Brimming with masculine charm
Asked me did I like to dance
âOh Yes!â I replied âWhenever thereâs chanceâ
And so we danced the night away
Never once did his eyes stray
Under the sisterâs envious glare
I have to say I didnât care
Too soon I heard midnight chime
I turned to leave it was time
Whispering âSorryâŚâaway I fled
âBut who are you? âWas all he said
I lost a shoe by the gate
But could not let them see my altered state
For as I ran the magic faded
My appearance was instantly jaded
My ride disappeared and I had to get back
So home I ran off the beaten track
The sisters returned hours later
Bemoaning a night not in their favour
Full were they of drink and spite
And of how âsheâ ruined their night
That mysterious woman who stole their prize
Seduced the prince in front of their eyes
Smiling quietly I went to my bed
Dreams hope filling my head
The very next morning a visitor arrived
There was a special shoe to be tried
The prince was searching for an answer
To exactly whom was the mysterious dancer
The sisters tried and failed with a sigh
I stepped forward âlet me tryâŚâ
Cruel laughter filled the air
As they jeered âYou werenât thereâŚâ
But the look on the faces was a sight to see
When they saw it fitted me
Incredulous with rage Stepmothers mask fell
Damning me and my father to hell
Grabbed her daughters off she took
Not even stopping for a second look
In the carriage the prince awaited
For the woman he was fated
Was it me? Was I the one?
Had my new life just begun?
With a smile I kissed my father goodbye
I had at least to give it a try
I jumped in the carriage into his arms
Fell in love with all his charms
We married soon in love and laughter
He was my happy ever after
