a short story

Hair whipped around her face as Karlie shivered in the biting autumn wind and she stared blankly the murky water of the river flowing below.
Desperate thoughts how of it had come to this raced around her mind as her hands tightly gripped the bridges cold steel railing.
She noticed a small crowd had already gathered at the water’s edge-no doubt speculating as to whether or not she would jump she supposed
Terrified but determined she closed her eyes and took one hand away.
Almost at once a desperate looking young man leaned in close from the other side of the railing, gently touched her shoulder and said,
“You don’t have to do this….”
She shrugged off his hand, shook her head and turned away.
No- she had to do this, there really was no other way.
Taking one last look at the icy water beneath, she took a deep breathe, let go and jumped.
A burst of adrenalin surged though her body as the air rushed past her.
Yes- the fear of heights was gone!
“But...” she thought desperately “I hope the bloody bungee rope holds!”
