Short Story- Bonds Can Never Be Broken
Brayden was working at his desk when pain shot through his mating bond. He cried out and fell, writhing on the carpeted floor. When it ended he shot up to the best of his ability, staggering out the door. Maisy was sitting in the other room when he collapsed, reaching for her. “Brilla.” He gasped. Nothing else needed to be said, Maisy howled for her mate and winnowed away. Raneir ran into the room, helping Brayden onto the couch as he wailed for Brilla. Raneir just waited for it to pass. Brayden was sitting, shell shocked with pain, on the couch when Maisy came back. Her face was pale with horror and she carried a red stained bundle in her arms. Brayden shot up, startling the man next to him. Maisy squeaked as he winnowed in front of her, taking the bundle. His mates red stained face stared up at him, her eyes closed. He roared. And roared. And roared. The mountains shook with his rage. His eyes glowed red and black as he gently placed Brilla down. Then, his wings spread, black and jagged as a bats. “They will die.”
