The Crow & The Dove

The farmer sat on his porch each morning early to listen to the news that the birds brought him. The crow would land in a tree nearby in the cornfield nearby and shout in a loud croaking voice ‘Have you heard the bad news? The people are bombing each other all day long. Surely it must be the end of the world. The end of the world!’ But the dove of love would land on his lawn in front of his house and sing in his little voice of love and peace ‘Have you heard the news? I heard the news. The world is filled with love all over. Love all over.’ Now the old farmer grew to love the little dove with his message of love and harmony and put out a tray of lovely bird seed for him each morning on the rich green grass. But soon he began to despise the crooked old crow who sang mockingly to him of all the bad news all about, so he put up a ugly old scarecrow the chase the crow away from his lovely little home and cornfield. Who needs the messenger of bad news when good news carries just as fast and is pleasant to the ear after all? Sing on my little doves, the world loves your songs more and more with each passing day. And the farmer’s mornings were always happy and filled with joy ever after.
