"The Omega Factor" By Ben Goode 2017 (c)

The determined warrior had followed the wolves for some time. And she waited and watched for an opportunity to attack.
However, the Alpha was well aware of her presence and deliberately fell back further from the pack.
It wasn't long before the warrior took the chance and confronted the Alpha directly. The Alpha wasn't at all surprised. And seemed to smile at her.
"You are either very brave or very foolish warrior, you realise you have not targeted the weakest link in our pack. You have found the strongest." The Alpha observed.
"I am well aware that you are the Alpha, for the Alpha is always at the rear of the pack. But I wouldn't settle for anyone less." The warrior replied.
Suddenly another wolf attacked the warrior from the rear and knocked her to the ground grazed and winded.
The new wolf pinned her to the ground with his front paws. His sharp teeth were dripping with a hungry drool as he stared at her growling fiercely.
"Well done my comrade. You may have the honour of dispatching her as you see fit. And you will advance in your rank from Omega to Delta."
"I don't want to kill her!" The Omega replied as he let the warrior flee.
The warrior quickly disappeared into the hills without another word.
"What is this? Explain yourself!" the Alpha barked angrily.
"If I had killed her she will have never learnt her lesson, next time she will respect our pack's order!" The Omega replied confidently.
"Next time? I can see why you are an Omega now." The Alpha shook her head with disapproval.
"Wisdom may have its place. But not always in strategy. You have made her a deadlier enemy by sparing her." The Alpha explained.
"She knew what she was doing by attacking me. And her bravery earned my respect. It would have been a fair fight, and I didn't really need your intervention."
"But I was going to reward you for your loyalty nevertheless. But now you have betrayed me in your choice of setting her free."
"Next time she may be more successful in dispatching me. Her next strategy may not be to confront me directly again."
"In fact, her methods may prove less honourable."
"She has indeed learnt a lesson, seeing you now as a weakness in our pack. And for that, you will not be allowed to live. Kill him!" The Alpha commanded.
And the rest of the pack obeyed in dispatching the Omega.
"Bad decisions come at a price. Especially when they may cost another's life!" The Alpha declared.

It shows even the Best Leaders make mistakes and the lesser can have more empathy and possibly become a much better leader one day (Or did the Alpha know this?) and that chance was taken away.
thought provoking.,.......
I was hoping someone would eventually read this and interpret it as you have. Yes the Alpha did find the Omega a threat in their empathy. The Omega also was very old school in thinking. They wanted honor. They didn't kill the human because they didn't like sneaking up on them, and felt it was too easy. They wanted the human to confront them next time, for the fight would have been much more honorable. The Omega knew the human wouldn't win against the Alpha. The Alpha had nothing to gain, but the Omega did, but he didn't want a promotion in rank so simply. He just wanted respect. And he would have made a good leader. But like humankind, the greatest leaders never last to make a real difference. Thankyou so much for reading my stories ??
