The US Constitution

The US Constitution

 When you think about the United States of America, what do you think? Do you think about how we have a strong government? Do you think about our infrastructure? Our economy? When I think about the United States of America, I consider our most significant asset is the Constitution. It grants us many freedoms and liberties that not many other countries have. Now, I do admit that the United States has it's faults and is facing many challenges at the moment. However,considering all the measures we've taken in order to secure the rights given to us by the constitution, we should guard it fiercly.
   When you think of the Constitution, you think of the Bill of Rights. The bill of Rights is made up of  the first ten amendments. Those amendments make up the cornerstone of the American freedoms and our right to do things. The Bill of Rights was designed to ensure the citizens retain their rights in a straightforward outline leaving no doubt or question of their meaning.- as quoted in the Constitution -, "...in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity..." ("United States of America 1789 (rev 1992) Constitute, constituteproject.org/constitution. Accessed 20 September, 2016). The amendments include freedoms that grant us many choices we make in our lives. While one can make good or bad choices, thanks to this same Constitution that grants us these freedoms to make choices for ourselves without the consort of others, but it also grants others the right to prosecute those whom have violated these rights. People make both bad and good decisions and the Constitution protects the rights of both sides.
   The amendments are supposed to be used as a way to protect ourselves as a people. However, lately there has been a lot of misuse of those amendments. There are three Tyranny Laws; one of which states that 'Any power that can be abused will be abused' (Roland, Jon. "Abuses and Usurpation's." Constitution Society, 20 September, 2016, constitution.org/cs_abuse.htm. Accessed 20 September, 2016.). Therefore, giving us the example that people will chose to abuse the right to make choices and have freedoms.
   You might wonder why this happens. And yeah, why does it? Exactly as the Tyranny Law states - anything with power than can be abused will be abused because when you show how powerful something is people are going to wan to test it to its length, to test its limit. When something like that is shown off it invites challenge. That - THAT is what makes America shine. We continue to set new limits by testing our own structure. That is the only way to achieve greatness. Regrettably, some people do not have this intention - yes. When you think about it though, whether or not they are intentionally making or breaking us - we are improving slowly. Each time our very own Constitution is tested, its wall grows stronger. It allows for our Democracy and country to shine while including some much needed room for improvement.
  Now THAT is why I consider the constitution to be one of our greatest strengths as a nation.
