"Ζήλια" By Ben Goode 2018 (c)

A young man had stormed out of a restaurant, he had been dining in with who he thought was his girlfriend. But it hadn't ended well.
He threw a bunch of flowers onto the sidewalk as he walked to his car nearby.
A young lady came rushing out calling out for him to stop.
"Jason, Jason I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please don't go" The woman pleaded to him, as he opened the door of his car.
"Yo think I'm just gonna sit there and take those snide remarks from that mother fucker in there Georgina?"
Jason slammed his door angrily as he turned to face her. "He was supposed to be my friend, my best friend!"
"But you're my best friend..." Georgina replied.
"Oh so you're friend-zoning me?" Jason shook his head. "After all this time? We've slept in the same bed together, I never tried anything cause I respected you. And what? Graeme comes along and suddenly you like him instead of me? He thinks he's king shit now. He's making fun of me. making FUN of me!" Jason threw down his car keys. "If he wasn't my friend he'd be dead, HE'D BE DEAD! You hear me Graeme? Fuck this, I'm goin, fuck you too!" Jason collected his keys again, and this time got into his car.
Graeme had come out of the restaurant too, to find Georgina watching Jason race away in his car.
"Is he going to be alright?" Graeme asked.
"I don't think so. I really don't think so..." Georgina said somberly. "We should go after him."
"With what? He has the car!" Graeme shrugged.
Jason drove out of town locked in deep thought, and he felt hot tears rolling down his cheeks. He was angry, and heartbroken, and lost.
He found himself driving deep into the bush land down some dirt tracks.
He seemed to just want to escape from everyone, and be alone. he stopped his car for a moment to give himself a chance to reach into his glove compartment. Where he got out his gun, and put it on his passenger seat.
He continued driving until he reached a dead-end.
He stopped his car, and got out with his gun in hand. It was dark, but he could still see quite a lot with the moonlight.
There was a narrow creek nearby, and he heard the water running softly through the reeds.
"She doesn't care, she doesn't care about me!" Jason cried out to the darkness. "What's the point now?"
Jason walked toward the creek to sit by it's bank. "What's the point of living?"
"You can be mine." A voice said suddenly from out of the darkness. Jason looked over to see a figure sitting on the other side of the bank.
They were like a shadow, but he could make out they seemed to be a woman.
Jason wasn't afraid, but rather he seemed fascinated.
"I'm pleased that you're not afraid of me. Other's probably would be. My name is Ζήλια, but you can call me Zelus."
"Your life doesn't have to end here. You could just simply give it to me, and I'd make sure you were never hurt again" Zelus smiled.
"Well shit, sure take my life I don't care, this night can't get any worse!" Jason threw away his gun.
"Maybe not for you." Zelos laughed, and as she did Jason passed out. falling onto the bank.
Jason awoke suddenly, and found himself back in the restaurant. Georgina and Graeme were sitting beside each other laughing.
Graeme looked at Jason who seemed disorientated. Apparently unaware of the time-loop.
"What's wrong buddy? Feeling sleepy from too much wanking? Graeme laughed. "I'll be back soon, just gotta take a piss, don't go touching my girl now!"
"I've got to go too. Mind my bag please Jason." Georgina smiled as she got up.
"Ohh haha maybe we can go together!" Graeme laughed again.
"Maybe...yes hehe maybe somewhere" Georgina winked.
Several minutes passed, and then half an hour. Jason got restless and picked up the flowers to leave.
"Fuck this, this is bullshit!" Jason went to get up, when suddenly Georgina came out to stop him.
"Going somewhere?" Georgina smiled at him.
"So where's your boyfriend?" Jason asked bitterly.
"Oh he piked out and went home, it's just us now. And it always will be." Georgina smiled. "You are mine."
Jason could see a strange shadow shimmer over Georgina's face, but he seemed to dismiss it in his happiness.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, by the creek, a lone figure staggered out of their car. With a gun in hand. This time it was Graeme.
He sat on the bank in misery. Crying in anguish and grief.
"She doesn't care, she doesn't care about me!" Graeme cried as he put his gun to his head....and pulled the trigger.
(Ζήλια is Greek for jealousy. Zelus is the God of jealousy)
