Map Reading

What's your direction? Maybe you'd like to go south,
in a blue kayak along the estuary to the river mouth;
I'm going to the stars, pehaps I'll find love on Mars,
of course it was a dream but I overtook flying cars.

I was weightless, floating, not so easy to 'dock' with you,
after we joined, looked out the window, admired the view;
they said that we'd be landing soon on a jupiter moon,
of course it was blue and reminded us of that old tune.

Earth was so far away, left the old concerns long gone,
we wanted 'space' and now we had it - and then some;
eighty years was nothing out here, come and live forever,
within light years we'll make love and always be together.

You stand on Earth, look at the stars, you have much to learn,
get ready with your compass because one day it'll be your turn.
