The Peacock's Feathers

A splendid peacock once met a pretty girl while out in the country. She had beautiful blue eyes and the most charming smile of all the girls he knew. 'I will give you one of my lovely tail feathers for a loving kiss from your sweet lips.' The peacock told the pretty young girl. So, she kissed him tenderly on the lips before plucking out a single tall tail feather from behind. 'Just one more kiss my pretty one,' said the splendid peacock to the girl 'And you may pluck out another of my proud feathers that you love so dearly.' So, she kissed him once again, before plucking out another feather from its tail. So it went for a third time and a fourth. And soon there was no end to the kissing and plucking out of the proud birds colorful tail feathers it seemed. Soon she had kissed him many times on the lips and he had lost all of the fifty of his lovely feathers from behind on his proud tail. He was left quite bear all-in-all and now had no beautiful feathers left to brag and about and display to the world. 'Seeing as I have given you all of my lovely feathers dear, won't you kiss me one more time, so that this old peacock might have something to remember a pretty girl like yourself.' 'No, oh dear, that won't do,' said she as she walked away into the sunset to go and make herself a beautiful lady's hat with all of his pretty colored feathers, 'You have no more feathers to give a lady, and as such there won't be any more kisses today for you.' she added. And so, the splendid little peacock learned the hard way, never trade your precious tail feathers for the charms and kisses of a fair young maiden. Soon you will be left without both and you might never ever get either one back. A fool and his money are easily parted. He was older but wiser by far it seemed after all.
