Poem -

7:05 AM

At 7:05 this time last year,

Our world was shattered,

Left in tears.

*

A single car drove through the night,

Headed home

Four kids inside.

*

Three were sleeping from a night of fun.

Partying, drinking,

A new love won.

*

Twenty-three years old, a bright young mother,

Responsible for

All the others.

*

Behind the wheel, she chose not to see,

She was to tired and

Should not be.

*

Pushing on, up hill and down

Round the corner

Close to town.

*

Only seconds, her eyes did close,

A tree appeared

Before her nose.

*

Unable to avoid the crash,

The impact hard,

Happened fast.

*

In that moment, a sleeping boy

Would never wake

To share love's joy.

*

Unknown then, another would die.

A senseless act

Tell my why?

*

Two would live, two lives lost

A night of fun,

Turned to dust.

*

At 7:05 19 years ago

My son was born

my heart aglow.

*

The hour has come round again

Who could have known

His life would end?
