Recipe for Love

Take two cups love

Two more of assumption

(the second is stronger,

And helps with dysfunction).

*

Add a pinch of hope,

a little dash of dreams.

Then don’t forget to add,

The fights and the screams.

*

A tablespoon of sarcasm.

A few more of good humor.

to spice it up a bit,

Add a few slamming doors.

*

Don’t forget hurt feelings,

And those happy times you shared.

They go hand in hand,

When bringing up past wars.

*

Now mix them together,

Throw in a dab of bitter.

Beat it long and hard,

You don’t want to be a quitter.

*

Pour it into a pan

That’s large enough to hold it.

You’ll need a big one, surely

If memories are to fill it.

*

Put it in the oven,

Bake at 400 degrees.

When golden brown and crusty,

Frost with unsatisfied needs.

*

Now take a look at what you've got.

It isn't very pretty.

Its awful to the taste buds,

And painfully gritty.

*

What you do from this point,

Is entirely up to you.

Throw it away, start over,

On a recipe, brand new.

*

Remove the bad components.

Add more love and hope.

Replace the bitter moments,

With those which help cope.

*

This time when you mix it,

Do so tenderly.

Learn to hold your tongue,

Be patient, quietly.

*

The end result when baked,

Is a lovely work of art.

One that can be treasured

And kept safe inside your heart.
