Mom & Dad... Thank You

From day of birth, till my first steps
Every need, my parents met.
Then comes precious toddler years
Under protective eyes and joyful tears.
School begins, independence grows
Mom and Dad are filled with woes.
Frustration mounts as time flies past
And teenage dreams are often dashed.
Broken hearts and unfilled dreams
Became my path after the teens.
Children came to bring me life
A reason to endure the daily strife.
Mom and Dad still watch and wait
Prepared for when hard times are great.
When a man came to my house and said
“We’re sorry Ma’am, your son is dead”
The value and strength of a parent earned
For I was mush from the news just learned.
Unable to think straight that day
My parents took over, arrangements made.
Its been a year, the healing slow
Mom and Dad still watch me grow.
I know I’ve made some bad mistakes
Lectures echo for my own sake.
I’ve learned a parent’s job is never done
From birth to death, a victory won.
My biggest wish for my parents to see
To reach my goals, so they’re proud of me.
Time marches on, it wont stand still
Mom and Dad prepare their Wills.
For all the years of worry and pain
Their final years, I will do the same.
I’ll be there for them when times get tough
When the body fails and the mind grows rough.
I’ll help them walk, and bathe and eat
Remind them of days when life was sweet.
We’ll speak of days when we were young
Of how we’ve grown, learned right from wrong.
Through us and grandkids, passed on down
The legacy of my parents can be found.
My beliefs and values are strong and true
Thanks to my Mom and Dad… I Love You!
