A Juvenile's Sentence

The judge sat in his podium
With all superiority above me.
He said, "How long do you think your
Sentence should be
To be fair?"
I said, "Sir,
To be frank,
I have done the worst of crimes
So choose any sentence because
I really don't care."
The man said, "Young man,
Was that an
Honest answer?"
I nodded
And put my head down.
And his gavel hit as hard
As lightning hits the ground.
The tall, dark-haired woman from the jury spoke, "Juvenile,
Look me in the eye-
And tell me, Do you think
A life sentence is fair?
After hearing that,
then would you care?"
