‘A lioness locked amidst it’s cage’

Little Jimmy sits at the back of the class
twiddling with his crossed armed thumbs
His grubby hands are all stained purple
from pigmentation on the plums
You see he’d pinched juicy ones
this morning
that’s why he was late for school
So Mrs Makepeace, his maths teacher
told him he had broken the attendance rule
“JAMES THOMAS RICHARDS”
she yelled so every class mate could hear
“WHY DO YOU SWAN IN AFTER THE BELL ?”
By this time she stood near
Like a raging bull on a mission
Mrs. Makepeace raced off her chair
As she frightened every child she sped past
deafening the ears of who sat there
“What an earth have YOU been up to child ?”
as she noticed his purple paws
“Don’t you take a wash in the morning, I’ve never seen such filthy hands as yours”
Well the penny dropped from within this woman’s brain
A mental picture of him climbing her garden wall
sent her instantly insane
“GET OUT MY CLASS YOU HORRID CREATURE”
Mrs. Makepeace screamed again
Jimmy crept out from the room
he understood her message plain
Then all at once as he was standing shaking outside the classroom door
Jimmy recognised a voice he’d heard it millions of times before
“Ah there you are my angel”
his doting Mother did say
“I’ve had permission from the Headmaster love”
as she hurried him away
As the two of them speedily scarpered outside the school to his parent’s car
his Mother told him of their coming adventure
“A well-earned holiday, abraod & far”
An entire fortnight from Mrs. Makepeace should simmer down her roaring rage
Jimmy pondered on her image
‘A lioness locked amidst it’s cage’
Can you imagine the sheer relief & joy that was in Jimmy’s mind
He was saved from further scolding
Mrs. Makepeace was so unkind
Mind you this old deputy headmistress
had a memory like Jimmy had never met
She was as thick-skiinned as an elephant
& they do say that elephants don’t forget
