A mother’s redemption
The path was treacherous, filled with strife,
Your addiction raging, consuming your life.
I was collateral, the innocent caught in the wake,
Bearing the brunt of each mistake.
Torn from your arms, ripped from your side,
Into the system's cruel clutches, I cried.
Abuse and neglect were the sins I endured,
As year after year, the wounds deeper, incurred.
Yet something resilient refused to lie still,
A fiercer voice calling from over the hill.
With courage that amazes and humbles me so,
You clawed through the darkness to break addiction's hold.
Rising like phoenix from torment's scorched ground,
In your transformation, redemption was found.
Shedding the shackles of vices undone,
Reclaiming your spirit, your heart, your sun.
The journey was arduous, wrought with remorse,
But you persisted in righting that course.
Until the woman I see shining brightly today,
Is one I can honor, respect, and obey.
Our relationship mended, our bond reunited,
Has filled up my soul with a joy so delighted.
For you are my mother, my hero, my friend,
Our story rewritten, our love transcendent.
The trials we conquered, the mountains we scaled,
Have made our connection so strong, unavailed.
I'm proud of your courage, the person you've grown,
My gratitude eternal, for you are my own.
So thank you, dear mother, for your valiant fight,
You pulled yourself back towards love's radiant light.
Our relationship stronger than ever before,
My admiration for you, forever in store.

Harrowing write, I love that it all ends well. Powerful x
I'm actually in tears reading this, the strength and desperation building to the relationship, I can relate to this, my mother suffered terribly with depression and was never truly there, always in her head, addicted to pills and her melancholy self, even now she walks down that street, visiting her anguish and sometimes staying for a while.
What can I say to you Arianna, thank you for sharing this heartfelt story, welcome to cosmo. X
