A Muse In The News
A librarian sprawled on my sofa, inquired how I was,
I said: 'Are you still peddling trash to the masses?'
He said: 'Yes, are you still writing it?' Cheeky devil,
easy banter, after all - we were both on the same level.
Scribes of the past supposedly did things to last,
now we're transitory, can't match masters of the past;
however, the goalposts have moved, look at information
we have today, enough to ensure plenty of adulation.
The oracle at Delphi was the centre of the universe,
you can not compare, was it you or I that was worse;
the prophets of doom were right, look out the window,
if we're not careful, fate will destroy everything we know.
But they discovered writings on the wall, surely an omen,
they said: 'Beware, don't let literary dictators rise again.'
