A PLEA FOR LOVE
A Poem By Williamjsi Maveli

Another sedatives kick in, and I go dead.
A vacant mask where thoughts were once bred.
My words, a slur, a fog, a broken chain,
As numbness replaces what was once a pain.
My speech is thick with sleep, a heavy cloak.
A hollow plea for love, a private joke,
Rises and falls, a desperate, fading sigh.
I lie here trapped, beneath a leaden sky.
I want some lust, some fleeting, selfish whim,
To pull me from the wreckage, limb by limb.
To hold me close, and burn this rust away,
To make me feel alive, just for a day.
My blank expression, a polished, marble lie,
Reflects a passion that will surely die.
Your pounding heart, a frantic, useless beat,
A noisy backdrop to a false retreat.
In this chemical haze, I'm "lovable," I'm told.
A perfect puppet, a story to be sold.
I am "lovable," a lie I have to keep,
Lost in a state where I can only sleepĀ
