a prayer of despair
Where art Thou in the hour of need,
When hearts are heavy, and spirits bleed?
The skies stretch vast, an empty dome,
Has Thy celestial gaze wandered from home?
We search for signs, for holy light,
In the depth of day, the dark of night.
Yet silence reigns, no thunderous tone,
No sacred whispers, no cornerstone.
The world spins on, a lonesome sphere,
Cries ascend, but does Heaven hear?
In the quietude, we stand alone,
Pondering if love from above is shown.
Nature's chorus sings a solemn song,
Yearning for a place where souls belong.
The stars above, once bright and bold,
Now distant fires, in the cold.
Why does it seem Thou art so far?
Are we alone, with only scars?
An answer sought, in the cosmic zone,
O why, O why, has God seemingly gone?

Not the only one asking that question. And it's a valid one. Maybe, because of what the church has always tried to teach us, we have been conditioned to expect that bad things will not happen because God wouldn't allow it. Personally I think God has probably given up on humans as a lost cause. I believe Jesus lived, was crucified and resurrected but I also believe his message has been hijacked by others for their own ends. Like if you commit suicide you won't be allowed into heaven. I mean come on - Jesus knew what would happen to him yet he let it happen. Was that not suicide? Sorry to have gone on. Don't think God has gone, he's just misrepresented.Â
if its answers you seek I suggest you start with the Dhammapada by Eknath Easwaran.
Very well written poetry. Not something I could achieve at 18. Well done Janie! Enjoyed
