A 'Ripper' by Any Other Name (at the request of a friend)
There is a stench rising from the city tonight,
shit and piss are swimming on the cobble-stone
can't take two steps and not dirty my shoes
high pitched laughter is somewhere in the shadows
a playful voice calling,
calling with an invitation,
makes me heart pump smelling blood;
like a hungry lion
it's too bad I ain't no ordinary 'John,'
I'm not looking for piece of 'head'
I'll be getting my pound of flesh,
lol, maybe, not 'exactly' a pound;
perhaps a little more, perhaps a little less
Two fat rats scurry past 'mister policeman'
shining his lantern; though he's blind as a bat
later on, he'll be running back, with numbers
collecting pieces, after my business
this I know
already done some work today
a terrible waste;
heard footsteps, had to make haste
left my knife hungry and sticky wet
now, I'll need to go;
have to cut to the chase;
and, I'll be sure to do this one 'proper'
take my time, give them a good show,
this I know

Hi Chris, nice Spoky write, I don't think I will be in any dark corner ever. Lol. Lovely lines. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
thanks for comment Cleo...lol, me neither... cheers
Hi Chris I think this is superb, Having watched and read many thing` s about the ripper
This gives the reader a feel of the times ( eighteen hundreds) of conditions they lived,
in and what he actually did to his victims.
Great Read!
Debs
deborah, thank you for saying such nice things, yes, I was trying to show what a horror place the east end of London was in 1888, Whitechapel, still kicking myself that I didn't go on one of the Ripper tours when I was in London last year, and there were many killings in those times but Jack got all the headlines, glad you enjoyed, cheers
Hey Chris . I have read dozens of books on the ripper and was actually thinking about doing a ripper one day , damn you beat me to it . Lol you have a way with words describing jacks nasty business in the middle of the night . A fine morbid and a great telling of this one by a master poet . Cheers to ya Rock . You nailed this write
hey, Cleo, thanks for great comment, I'm not a fan of dark writes, and I'm not very good at writing them, wanted to challenge myself, don't enjoy writing or reading them, but I'm oddly fascinated with the Jack the Ripper story, bit of a contradiction, I know, lol....cheers pal
Rock, thanks man, and please go ahead and do the one you planned, I have read a few books on the Ripper as well, and seen many documentaries as well....you'll make me feel terrible if you don't write your Ripper one, this poem ain't that good, and even if it was it's a poetry site, so writing on the same topic will happen, I'm looking forward to reading your Ripper poem, I may not like dark writes but I enjoy dark stories, once in a while, cheers, pal....
thanks for your insightful comment, sis Cherie, I think I've only ever written one other poem about serial killers, my first on the Ripper, very disturbing but his story is unique, not sure who he was, but most so called 'experts' believe it was a man named Aaron Kosminski, although he was never charged, he was committed to an asylum and the murders stopped, there were five murders in a 12 week span in Whitechapel, 1888, it really was a horrible place to live, over-crowded with lots and lots of crime, the Ripper murders spawned many copy-cat murders....the famous letters that the Ripper sent to the newspapers, most 'experts' believe were sent by a newspaper journalist of the day, to sensationalize the crimes, they believe the Ripper never actually sent those letters, but who really knows anything for sure, the story is wrapped in mystery, but still fascinates....cheers, have great evening
thanks, Flower, and I apologise for not responding to your comment earlier.... lol, I found it odd that you describe it as a 'tribute' omg, it's not really a tribute, was talking to a friend about not posting anything for a while, so I waited for something to come in the wind and this oddball came, I was reading an article on Jack the Ripper a few weeks ago, guess it was on the mind.... it's not Annabelle Lee, that's for sure, but I haven't written too many dark ones, I get bored to my toenails with repetition, it is different, at least for me, so wtf, I posted it, hey glad you liked, yes I agree, it's creepy, good description for this one, lol....cheers Flower
I like your style Christopher, very good and interesting writing my friend
Why thank you, Amber, and right back to ya, have great day...cheers
great comment, Jeremy, thanks a ton, and I really do enjoy trying to figure people out, it is kind of an unusual hobby,
and as far as writing about someone like The Ripper, I suspect that it was Aaron Kosminski, just an ordinary joe with anger issues, probably psychotic, if am not mistaken, he was a butcher; quite ordinary and when he was committed to an asylum, and the murders stopped, (not counting the copycats) made a lot of money for tourism in Whitechapel, London, they have daily tours of the murder sites, it all says more about society than the ripper, we seem to want to make familiar the things we fear most, just a theory.
thank you for saying that I may have the makings of a 'Behavioral
Evidence Analyst', that is quite flattering, most people are really not that complicated, but who am I to judge? You can never really 'know' anyone fully unless they turn themselves into stereotypes, perhaps then you can..... hey thanks for the author references, I will check them out, work has me handcuffed for the time being, but I will try, hope all is well,
always good to exchange words with you, my friend....have great day, or night
Oh my gosh this is a ripper
kept me on the edge reading
waiting and suspense,
Makes microbikinis look like
child play and makes death look
inevitable. Great write Chris!!
luv from jai :)
Jai, get over here! let me give you a bear-hug, such a sweet comment; but don't get 'soft' on me, big guy; I'm touched....and let's be serious, this twisted walk on the dark side in no ways compares to your micro-bikini poems, they are the freaking best; not even kidding, love from Chris
this is amazing you are most talented!
thank you dearest poet, very sweet thing to say
