A Shadow

A Shadow

A shadow lies across their land
Twisted hands in darkened places
Grapple with easy machine guns
Children’s souls fade from stolen lives
Mothers cry for their murdered babes
Leaders powerless to address the rot

A shadow lies across their land
Incapable of seeing  the innocent faces
They continue to arm their sons
Death and hatred in their eyes
A helix of blood and metal in their veins
With the constant tirade of the crack pot

A shadow lies across their land
An indecent assault on sacred places
With bodies piling up in tonnes
The second amendment their prize
That Devil will out these days
And what a feast for his lot

Hey BRETT!!..... this is VERY well crafted piece ....I think the picture you chose caught my eye... but.... was surprised to find more modern terms and phrases like 'machine guns' because I thought it'd find swords etc....., that said, I loved what you did here..... the repetition of the opening line for each stanza makes for great flow and continuity..... and even though it feels like a metered rhyme scheme... it is actually just VERY well delivered poetic prose..... with great word choices creating the desired phrasing!!..... truly well conceived and BEAUTIFULLY delivered dear poet brother!!......ALL STARS!!.... well done......LOVE and ROCKETS!!......T ???

Why thank you Tony Taylor! Your feedback is very much appreciated. I was inspired by the horrific news we keep seeing on our TV's coming out of the US.

Warm regards
Poet brother
