A Timely Poem

Why bother continuing, you certainly know the rest
Like five, six, seven, eight I'm sure you must agree
Doesn't take a rocket scientist or a mathematical genius
But a degree in physics wound sure come in handy

Hang on, are you sure it's five, six, seven, and so on
OF COURSE, IT IS, at least the last time I checked
Now you've got me puzzled and in a bit of a quandary
I'd ask Carl Sagan but he passed on in ninety-six

Okay, this is getting really silly, think I'll just let it go
This clock face has definitely been tampered with
Some hooha thought it would be really quite clever
So I took away his toys which I'm sure he will miss

So the end of this timely tale is a dirty big mystery
Like being struck by lightning seven times in a row
I'll just chalk it up to a touch of lunacy and other stuff
Or a clockmaker fed up with the occupation he chose
