Addiction you chose
She sweeps the cover from her shoulder
Pulls her t-shirt up so she's not colder
She props herself up, feet on the floor
Hands on the duvet, head still sore
Eyes tilt towards the ceiling
And I'm wondering if shes healing
She goes about her day same as normal;
With this game she plays eternal
Her cup fills with coffee, no sugar
Fingers on the handle like a trigger
The locks of her hair stop at her heart
As she thinks she smiles, lips apart
Not even she knows why she does it
Or when it started or how to quit
But she plays it with skill like no other
And each move she makes is just a cover
Hiding and blocking what's inside
Like a wedding veil protecting a bride
Her honey-brown eyes find you,
Rehersed words sound new
Then she'll smile like she's taunting
Even her breaths leave you wanting
You're hooked on this poison
Shes an addiction that you've chosen
At first you find her curious
The way she talks, almost in verse
Dark lipstick painted on her lips
You were the sun and she an eclipse,
It's beautiful to see but please beware
You find you're blind if you stop and stare
Conversations all day and night
Soon you realise you're waiting till twilight
Hanging on her every word
Lines of truth and emotion blurred
Just as she starts to fade away
You find you're in love and do anything to stay
After a while she'll get bored with you
Leaves you lost down an avenue
Tells herself it's not her fault
That you peruse her in a love-drunk assault
She turns her back, leaves you to your fait;
As you stare at her she whispers check mate.
