After All These Years

From the time I was only nine years old, I was a serious Numismatist;
I started amassing a fine collection, many rare coins were on my list!
I had the backing of my father, who helped my holdings grow;
He believed in my young expertise, a smart son in the know!
.
By the time I was in high school, I had coins worth quite a lot;
All gem quality specimens, the best of the best we bought!
Oft times I would go into the city, to visit coin dealers in our town;
We had six or seven down there, sometimes a great deal could be found!
.
One of them was a guy named James Byrd, who I enjoyed buying from;
For his prices were always honest, never asking too high sums!
The last time that I saw him, was in nineteen sixty-two;
For only one year later, I became a dealer too!
.
I did it then for three years, traveled to conventions far and wide;
But then I got disenchanted, and a different avocation tried!
Eventually, I fell in love with paintings, I started dealing in fine art;
And fifty-one years later, that passion still rules my heart!
.
But I never lost my love for old coins, such relics from the past;
So Sunday, we went to a coin convention, where soon I was aghast!
For who did I end up talking with, after fifty-seven long years;
Ninety-one year old James Byrd, which quickly brought my eyes to tears!
.
.
A man from my past
Over half a century
Came back on Sunday
