Air

It’s late in the day and warm serenity melts as night turns out the sun
Darkness weeps from my bones, nowhere to hide and nowhere to flee
Dread soaks my soul, over spilling I bleed an ocean to drown my sorrows
But, brutally he savages my dreams and soothes this, my tortured mind
He pierces the softness that is mine and breathes love into deflated lungs
Dawn begins to weave her sunlit dance and I am left alone once more
She takes my stars, she steals my moon and swallows my silence whole
How I long for him to haunt my dreams and wrap me in his stormy sea;
of wild beating hearts and untamed wings that lend chaos to our eyes
Without him the pain will bud and bloom like poison ivy in summer rain
and, if only I could be air, simply air, that surrounds him tender in touch
Air that gives life to his soul, so when he finally lies deep with the roses;
eternal sleep brings a final breath, and I’ll be the last to leave him cold.
