All of this time

It took one year of me no longer wanting you,
It took six months to realize goodbye was overdue.
It took me so long just to find all of the clues,
Leading to you being the one I no longer want to pursue.

It took me one day to get it all off my chest,
It took me many years to realize I deserve the best.
It took one day to throw it all away,
Because my emotions always were in dismay.

It took one hour till the tears started to fall,
It took one minute to want to risk it all.
It took many years to get over the love I let flow,
It took many days to get over it and let go.

It took me one minute to realize the pain in my heart, 
It took one second to wanna rush back to the start.
It took a tiny glimpse to see all of my worth,
And took a life time to announce a rebirth.

All this time taught me many different things,
All of this time taught me that you don’t always win.
And because of time I’ve found who I need to be,
And in order for that to happen I need to set you free.
