Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's

Mr Grant Sanchez visited his old mother in a nursing home,
She was put there after repeatedly leaving her house to roam,
He took her to a doctor to try and put his mind at ease,
But he was given the unfortunate news, his mum had Alzheimer's disease.

He knocked on the door and entered, his mum would look up at him,
Still knitting furiously, her face was blank and grim,
He would sit and talk about lots of things, and he would go,
She didn't recognise this strange man, it was a face she didn't know.

They tried all different programs, waiting for her mind to click,
They tried bringing in toddlers, jogging memories to make it stick,
The doctors were surprised with Mrs Sanchez, she loved spending time with them,
Mr Sanchez's mother could look after this child, like an old mother hen.

One day in walked Mr Sanchez, with an old CD to play,
And asked could he play a track, asked if it was okay,
One particular song came on, which caught Mr Sanchez with surprise,
I think he thought she knew this song, he could see it in her eyes.

From then on she started going downhill, complaining about this and that,
Always complaining to Mr Sanchez, when ever he came and sat,
They were continually upping her Morphine, as she entered a world of bliss,
Once you start increasing that, there's no surviving this.
