An apple a day

An apple a day

Keeps the doctor away all day so they say,
the apple was important from day one as it lay,
Adam took the bite, couldn't it have been a banana,
or a nice pear or an orange to stop the drama?

No, it wasn't, as a serpent was wriggling nearby,
we were in for trouble like the Taliban in the sky,
free will was granted, a dreadful error started,
just as tho' The Red Sea really had been parted.

Eve was absolved from blame, a product of fame,
the tree of knowledge would never be the same,
no one seemed to care about recipe for disaster,
as tho' everything had been covered with sticking plaster.

Of course, God was blameless, it was all man-made,
think again, look around you - do I see beauty fade?
