AN IMPISH POEM

AN IMPISH POEM

IT WAS LATE NOVEMBER, IF I STILL REMEMBER
WHEN THEY DESCENDED FROM HEAVEN’S HEIGHT,
BAREFOOTED FAIR CREATURES
LIGHT AND PRETTY LIKE DRAGONFLIES,
WHO DARED TO COME DOWN
IN ALL SHAPES AND FORMS
SMALLISH AND SLEEPY EYED.
I HAD AN HOUR OF LEISURE
WATCHING THE BIRDS FLYING AROUND
WHEN THE PLUMP CHERUBS AND SKINNY FAIRIES
DESCENDED SWIFT AND LAUGHING LOUD.
I WAS CAUGHT IN A BAD MOOD
FROM SLEEPING DEEP AND SOUND,
SO, I SHOT THE LITTLE CREATURES
--AND FOR THAT I AM NOT TOO PROUD.
