An “Open” And Shut Case
For four days folks watched The U.S. Open, at Long Island’s Shinnecock;
After two, it looked like Dustin Johnson, on the tournament had a lock!
But Saturday, the winds revved up, in the early afternoon;
Making low scores neigh impossible, and heads begin to swoon!
.
By the time the day was over, the title was up for grabs;
There were many that could win it, if on Sunday, a low round they could nab!
Early, an Englishman named Fleetwood, shot a record tying score;
Finishing two hours before the others, he waited, to see what was in store!
.
One by one the champions faltered, the pressure just too great;
The greens so very difficult, treacherous breaks to compensate!
But one of Saturday’s leaders, in the second to last pair;
Had the look of utter confidence, when in his eyes one stared!
.
His name is young Brooks Koepka, last year’s reigning champ;
Yet we all thought that on Sunday, another’s reign be stamped!
But remarkably, he never faltered, and won by just one shot;
The most exciting golf tournament ever, the greatest battle ever fought!
.

The great Brooks Koepka
