An Untitled Shakespearean Tragedy...And Triumph
How could it ever have happened,
That a monarch was short-sighted.
As the genius William Shakespeare,
Was overlooked and never knighted.
Simply because he had no wealth,
He didn't own acreages of land.
Never part of the establishment,
And was ignored quite offhand.
But today all sing his laurels,
History telling what he's achieved.
That this gifted son of Stratford,
Needs no title to truly succeed.
Perhaps he's up there smiling,
At pretentious titles and royalty.
And of people who reject them,
Who will never bend the knee.
'Heaven is above all yet there sits a judge, that no king can corrupt.'

Hello Shaun :)
I love this tribute to an iconic writer. You stress the point to the reader (who no doubt is a keen writer also) that success can come from anywhere and anyone. So many creative minds are not celebrated until after they die. Yet their work out lives us all, time and time again. They become an eternal voice to the masses. Far out weighing any knight. Brilliantly penned again my friend, and as ever you got the reader reflecting which I always love to do
Your friend Gwen x❤️

Ooooh, I like this! Shakespeare did deserve to be knighted... without a doubt he did! A brilliant man whose work, I have no doubt, will stand the test of eternity!
Great poem x
