And Too Late Now

And Too Late Now

The sky blue pink of day slowly devoured by twilight
reducing everything it touched to diluted sepia.
The vibrant green of the distant hills stolen and replaced withย
sombre grey.
Alone he stood watching silently..his weathered hand slowly
smoothing his thinning hair.
He thought with pain,of the times she would weave her slender fingers
through his untameable mane
and she smiled at his inscrutable face.
Regret overwhelmed him as he knew he should have returned her smile,
joined her in the joy of love expressed, but that was then....
and too late now.
As the sun sank into oblivion, kissing the sky farewell until morning,
he touched his lips, now cold, cracked and unused
and prayed to feel the warmth of her mouth
as she soย often planted a sweet, fragrant kiss on his cheek.
So simple, so caring,so constant
A lifetime of loving shared, yet few words spoken.
He hoped that love would be recognised without great
displays of emotion,
yet, whilst he knew her unwavering devotion,
he felt now,
at this final moment,
that his words should have been clearer,
warmer,
honeyed.
As he held the cold ,steely urn which was all that remained of his
darling girl,
he felt a tear, slowly meander down his face
and he knew his heart was irrevocably broken
and that no words
could bring her home.
Words left sadly, mute and unspoken
And too late now

My goodness LO!!..... how I've missed your distinctive style of poetic creativity around here......ย this beautifully delivered narrativeย piece is such a subtly moving & powerfully insightful look into the world of regrets that Love can, all-too-often, manifest...... the meticulous word choices creating such a softness in phrasing that it shows its reverence through its tone of melancholy and downright "lump in the throat' sadness!!....... had to PIN this!!......smokin' grooves dear poet sister!!....... so good to see you on the pages!!.......LOVE & ROCKETS!!.....T xo ?โœดโค

Hello my poet brother xxx yes itโ€™s been a while and filled with โ€˜upsโ€™ and โ€˜downsโ€™ ..sadly more โ€˜downsโ€™ than โ€˜upsโ€™ but slowly starting to see daylight again. I was inspired to write this piece following ย an old friends recent loss and many hours talking with him of the regrets he had that he felt he could never put right.....It made me even more determined to never shy ย from telling those ย people I care ย about most , just how loved they are.Life is sometimes just too fleeting and before we know it ..it has passed us by.Thank you so much for your constant support and encouragement and fingers crossed that time will allow me to spend more time doing the thing that I love most..writing! Hugs, thanks and yet more ย hugs to you my friend xxxx
