Anxiety of the night

Anxiety of the night

Rain patters against a window pane,

The porch lights cower against the darkness,

Some where a heart beats relentlessly,

Waiting for the one who means everything,

They've been gone for so long,

Causing minds to fear the blackness of the night,

Creaking boards battle the wind,

Dogs bark at slithering shadows,

Breathing shallows,

Body shakes,

Were they planning on being this late?

A crash,

Swearing it came from out back,

A face in the darkness?

Or just a plastic bag blowing from place to place,

So alone,

So alone,

Please,

Come,

Home.
