Apocalyptic Lullaby

A sea of humanity is walling me in
it sparks my insanityâtheyâre coming again.
I wonât make it through another night all alone.
I hide in my basement deep under my home.
Â
Â
The warnings came often, yet no one would listen.
The skin of these thingsâvile boils that glisten.
It hangs off their bones like a putrid, pale plaster.
Now Iâm scared to death âcause itâs me that theyâre after.
Â
Â
They moanâhow they groanâa cacophonous drone!
And each time I hear them I am chilled to the bone.
My stomach is growling, it drowns out the sound,
I fear that theyâll hear as theyâre lurking around.
Â
Their scratching is constant, they scrape at the door.
My familyâs long gone but theyâre still wanting more.
The wood starts to splinter, now Iâm good as dead.
Itâs no fun, Iâm doneâI put a gun to my headâŚ
Â
Suddenly, all is quiet, the new dawn has arrived.
Itâs the closest Iâve come to not being alive.
What tonight might bring, well, I havenât a clue.
If they get through that door, Iâm not sure what Iâll do.
Â
For now, I must sleepâI'll need all of my witsâ
so my flesh and bones aren't ground into bits.
But, even in dreams, they catch and eat me alive.
I can't go on much longer, I just wonât survive.
Â
I ball up my fists and curse all of mankindâ
why were we so stupid, so blatantly blind?
Our world now a cess pool, pollutants and piss.
My lullaby as I dieâthe Apocalypse.

Oh oh oh...!! I love this Dean, such a dark tone but with it, brings forceful intent in the depth of the write, it's got an undertone of righteousness ????? brilliant!! ?
I love it..... Everything you write is amazing keeps me on the edge of my seat. I love the thrill.
Thanks a million, Tara.
I am so very grateful for your continued support and I'm glad you enjoyed the poem.
Pleasant screams, dear poet!
~Dean ;)
Your an amazing writer. I am mezmorized by your work. I bet everyone reads your poems to the end. How could you not? Now if I can figure out how to vote? Do you write stories. I'm going to look!Â
Thank you, Terry. You're very kind.
Yes, I wrote short horror fiction long before I began writing poetry.
With the exception of love poems I wrote for my wife.
But just one story is posted here and it's flash fiction (100 words or less).
I sincerely appreciate you dropping by to read and comment.
Horror Hugs, my dear.

Dean I read your flash fiction. If you'd write a book I would be scared to get out of bed at night while reading. You are gifted indeed. I mostly write as therapy but I couldn't claim to be a poet. I have enjoyed reading your work. Inpressive...Thanks!
