Ash

The glowing ember of my cigarette
Is a light in the darkness
The ash clings to it
As we cling to hope
Until it is flicked away
Like flicking a switch
Its path is dependant
Upon the breeze that surrounds it
Flying high above my head
Fragmenting into minute particles
Invisible to the naked eye
How I wish to be that way
Invisible
To all but who I want to see me
But instead I allow
Myself to be seen
Like the ember of my cigarette
glowing in the darkness
Until its destiny has been fulfilled
and it is stamped out
like my light is being stamped out
from misuse
