Ashes (My escape from a cult)

Ashes (My escape from a cult)

Stepped from the ashes that buried my soul,
deceptions flare burnt out that left me half whole.
Caught between chapters of wrong, neither right,
reached for a hand that could shower me light.

Freedom found distance when stepping stones came,
they buried the hurt, put to rest endless shame.
Truth seemed to smoulder the ghosts of before,
grounded deceit that would unlock the door.

I'd walked from a faith that had mingled with cold,
unanswered questions, the lies that were told.
Scattered the ashes that haunted my past,
breathed a salvation that freed me at last.

Thank you so much Lauren, as are you. You just made my day and have certainly built my spirits up to continue writing which is my passion.

Wow!! SUSAN!!.... once I read the title I was already hooked!! (so to speak)......I was not disappointed..... this tells the tale SO VERY poetically... with broad strokes that invite the minds eye into the scenario ~

~ "Truth seemed to smolder the ghosts of before
Grounded deceit that would unlock the door..."

I LOVE the way you use such sweeping imagery throughout... it allows you to tell an entire tale of hurt, and shame, and captivity, and eventual freedom .....ALL in a 12 line piece of poetically hypnotic perfection!!......ALL STARS!! & PINNED!!....... great work dear poet sister!!.......LOVE your style!!.......LOVE & ROCKETS!!......T xo ?✴❤?
